It started with a photo on my phone

Like most pet owners, I had thousands of photos of my dog on my phone. Blurry ones, perfect ones, silly ones. But when I wanted to give someone a truly meaningful gift — something that captured the character of their pet, not just a snapshot — I couldn't find anything that felt right. Printed mugs felt cheap. Painted commissions cost hundreds and took weeks. Canvas prints were just… photos.

I wanted something that looked like art. Something someone would hang on their wall and tear up a little when they looked at it.

The idea

When AI image generation reached a level where it could genuinely create beautiful, painterly portraits — I knew this was the missing piece. Not to replace artists, but to make something previously accessible only to the few available to everyone. A watercolour portrait of your cat. A glowing night-scene portrait of your dog. Delivered in minutes, not months.

I spent months testing prompts, refining styles, and obsessing over quality until every output felt like something worth framing. PetPortraitGift was the result.
